I personally don’t think that this reputation is earned and that just about every house flipper you meet is a good person who’s actually doing something good for the people they’re buying from, the community they’re rehabbing in, and the people they’re selling to. But some people just see us as opportunistic. They think that because we’re making a profit, we must be cutting a lot of corners and doing poor work to make our money.
All that’s pretty depressing to think about, but I have some good news. You can actually fight that bad reputation and do a lot of good for your real estate investing business just by doing a few things to give back to your community.
Sponsoring a Little League Team
Whether you pay for the uniforms, take the team out for ice cream after the game, or help fund trips to away games, you can do a lot for your reputation and your business by sponsoring a local little league team. Your business’ name will show up on banners, T-shirts, uniforms, and flyers for games, so people will see your brand and associate your name with real estate investing and with a fun, family-oriented community activity.
Just sponsoring the team with a little bit of cash is a good start, but you can do even more for your business by actually showing up for games and cheering them on. Take this opportunity to get to know people in your community. They’ll see that you’re an upstanding person with a good heart, and they’ll likely change their views of your house flipping business.
Organizing a Community Clean-Up Day
Want to give back in a way that will not only help give you more brand exposure and reputation maintenance but will also help you sell houses faster? Put together a community clean-up day. Whether you’re cleaning up a local creek or park or picking up litter along a particular stretch of road, you can make your town or city a more attractive place while you get to know people and build your name as someone who cares about the community. Plus, people are more likely to buy houses in areas that are clean and beautiful, so you’ll be doing work to sell your next flip faster, too.
Take Advantage of the Opportunity to Make Quality Connections
Whether you’re picking up litter, sponsoring a little league team, building a house for Habitat for Humanity, or doing any other work to give back to your community, remember that this is an opportunity to make connections. Get to know the neighbors in the areas where you flip houses so that they’ll be excited when they see you working on a vacant property near them. Meet real estate professionals and potential investing partners. Get to know them and foster a positive relationship. You never know when you might want to work together in the future.
The more involved you are in your community, the more people will respect you as a real estate investor and an honest and trustworthy businessperson. Give back a little and you can do wonders for your real estate investing business.
